Senior Artist (Charlottetown, PE)

Other Ocean Interactive has an exciting employment opportunity for a talented Senior Artist with 5 or more years of full time industry experience. Join our team in developing the latest in DS, Wii, XBOX 360, iPhone and iPad titles.

Candidates must have experience with:

  • 3D polygon modeling
  • UV texture mapping
  • Maya
  • Photoshop

Other desirable skills include:

  • 3D rigging and character animation
  • Sprite / Pixel creation and animation
  • 2D animation
  • Graphic Design / Interface Design
  • Conceptual art
  • Special effects animation

We try to accommodate each artist’s chosen specialty whenever possible, and we give everyone the opportunity to try new aspects of art production as much as we can. Our artists tend to have an interest in the design of games, and will often be involved in level design and game design.

To maximize your likelihood of being considered, please take the time to follow the provided Applicant Submission Guidelines. The following are additional guidelines directed specifically at applicants interested in an art position with Other Ocean Interactive. Read carefully.

Email attachments of images, demo reels, or work samples are not accepted as we have limited space on our server. In the skills section of your resume, please indicate which 3D and 2D software you are trained in, and indicate your level of proficiency for each. Also indicate if you possess drawing and animation traditional skills. Low poly models and textures are the main style we like to see samples of for 3D art. Please do not send original samples, as they will not be returned. Color photocopies may be included with regular mail submissions.

Portfolio Hints and Tips (in order of importance):

  • Please include only the best 2D and 3D examples of your work.
  • We like to see original creations of low polygon 3D models in wireframe and textured view, and the corresponding UV texture maps.
  • The ability to efficiently map textures is a highly valued skill.
  • Include some models with very low poly count, such as 300-400 triangles, as well as some models with 1000-5000 triangles if you have them.
  • Specify triangle counts and texture file sizes in pixel dimension.
  • The length of your demo reel should be no more than 5 minutes, starting with your most recent work.
  • List as much detailed info as possible with each example and all software used.
  • Collaborations must include a breakdown of your specific contributions.
  • Specify if drawings were done on paper, digitally, or combination.
  • Length of time for completion of works is helpful information.
  • For highly detailed next-gen style characters, the process and programs must be specified. For example; if you started with a base mesh that you did not create and then added detail to it, this should be noted.
  • We like to see a few well done life drawings, and a few gesture drawings. There is no need to show more than 4 in total.
  • Concept art sketches and illustrations for characters, props, and environment are nice additions.
  • Letters of recommendation from previous supervisors may be included. A list of references to confirm previous employment may be requested at a later date.
  • A timed and remote artist skill test may be requested as a part of the application process. This would consist of 3D low polygon modeling with UV mapping in Maya, and texture creation in Photoshop.

Financial Manager (St. John's, NL)

Summary:

Prepare monthly financial package. Oversee all Canadian financial related functions. Reviews systems and work processes as needed to ensure good internal controls and streamlined processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepares monthly cash flow report, profit and loss and balance sheets statements for Canadian companies and analyzes results.
  • Prepares consolidated project cost reports comparing actual results to budget for CFO and Studio Head.
  • As time permits, may assist with Canadian/US financial statement consolidations.
    Acts as the primary contact for external auditors and tax accountants. Communicates with government agencies and vendors etc. to coordinate related financial and operational activities.
    Responsible for control procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with provincial and federal regulations.
  • Recommends accounting policy and procedural changes as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Aptitudes:

Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, job costing, cost control principles and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Knowledge of financial and accounting software and highly skilled in excel. Ability to analyze financial data and develop forecasts. Known as an outgoing individual who embraces the value of others and perpetually seeks to improve operations, processes and financial results. Ideal candidate would have a Bachelor's Degree in Business/Accounting, with an accounting designation with two to three years accounting experience.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to the CFO (located in California). Meets monthly with Studio Head to provide timely financial reports and analysis. Works closely with all operational and financial staff. As a key member of the staff, the Financial Manager will support and help nurture a great work environment.

Producer (St. John's, NL)

Other Ocean Interactive is seeking a talented producer to join our studio in beautiful St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

The successful candidate will be detail oriented with proven project/production management experience, including preparing project budgets. Excellent oral and written skills are required. The individual will manage videogame projects from start to finish. This includes, but is not limited to, the coordination of art, design, and programming teams to deliver a stellar finished product on time and on budget.

The Producer will be responsible for publisher relations, as well as maintaining all project-related documents and schedules. Experience with software management tools such as MS Project is certainly an asset. Candidates should have at least four years experience in the videogame industry.

Game Designer (St. John's, NL)

A game design job at Other Ocean Interactive typically entails creating, documenting and implementing game designs and in-game systems. Candidates must possess excellent problem-solving skills and need to be able to work independently as well as under direction. Excellent communication and documentation skills as well as a passion for games are a must. Applicants with industry experience are preferred.

The tasks required of a game designer at OOI include:

  • Creation and maintenance of game design documents.
  • Designing titles that fit within time and budget constraints while meeting publisher expectations.
  • Planning and building of game levels using a variety of 2D and 3D tools.
  • Balancing of mathematical systems resulting in engaging gameplay.
  • Systems and gameplay testing with a heavy emphasis on analysis.
  • Working closely with art, audio and programming departments.

Knowledge / experience of the following will be considered a plus:

  • Programming and/or scripting languages.
  • Hardware limitations & capabilities.
  • Art and/or audio production.
  • Script / story writing.

Programmer (St. John's, NL)

Other Ocean Interactive has exciting opportunities available for video game programmers of all levels. To be considered for a position in our programming department, applicants should be able to demonstrate their programming skills. Candidates with professional video game programming experience are prefered. A B.S. in Computer Science, or equivalent, is preferred.

We like our employees to be as flexible with their programming as possible. All applicants should have experience in the following areas of game development:

  • C/C++
  • 3D Mathematics
  • DirectX or OpenGL Programming
  • 2D Graphics Programming

Additionally, applicants should have knowledge of at least one of the following:

  • Console development
  • Tool development
  • Plugin or scripting development with either 3D Studio Max or Maya
  • Object Oriented Design
  • Assembly Programming (particularly in Z80, 6502/65816, 6809, or 68000)
  • Audio Programming
  • Physics Programming
